about

This is a collection of every song I wrote and had the opportunity to record as folk punk acts Straydog, Rusty Armor Collective, the Stray and executive ashtray from 2010-2015. The recordings vary from live takes on old iphone audio recordings, to condensers plugged directly into an unmixable digital 8 track, to shitty usb mics into garage band, to built-in laptop mics on shitty laptops, to crappy condensers connected to a Zoom field recorder and overdubbed, etc etc etc. I made use of what I had at the time most of the time borrowing equipment and technical skills from very cherished and giving friends.

Some of this material previously existed on bandcamp, but I pulled it down a few years ago. Other stuff from the very beginning and stuff from the very end was never available for listening.

At one point in 2014 most of these songs were on a 2 disc set called "four more years" with hand-sewn brown paper sleeves and hand-typewritten art and insert. It had a drawing I did of cigarette butts that I still like. I think I threw them all away.

This all comes as I've been taking time for myself to heal and grow and rediscover who I am. These songs are a part of me I'd written off as something entirely naive, jaded, deranged and negative. All these years later, I found myself revisiting these songs and feelings. Aside from the bits about drinking myself to sleep and such, I still relate with a lot of the emotional and political feelings I had to express then.

This is a total bare-all account. The only thing that really gets me feeling stupid is the song "Dirty Feet" where I am telling a narrative and I said Bukowski was my favorite when asked. I'm just glad I'm in a good enough place growth wise to recognize that as gross, misguided, not reflective of who I am as a person and the things I believed then and still believed now. So if you hear that, just remember it makes me cringe hard too. I do look back at it even now, the way that it is used implies a growth beyond it even then.

I'm so happy that everyone involved in my life during this time, like myself, has more or less grown to be better all around.

RIP Missy
RIP casa de la filth
